Weather

It took me 1h 20 mins to get into work today, including car de-snowing time. I passed 5 cars, 1 motorbike, and 1 lorry that had fell fowl of the snow and ice. This included one car outside Leuchars that had one wheel on a wall, two in mid air, and one on the road.

*Hugs* and understanding to you all. We've got a bit of a blizzard here too.

Somehow I do not think it is worth while getting studded tires for 3 or 4 days use every couple of years.

Ah, but we´re used to it here. Andrew's right about 3 or 4 days every couple of years. Even up in Aberdeen it only snowed for a couple of days a year.

The blizzard's dropped off now and it's only snowing lightly.

Actually, I feel sorry for the folks in the Western Isles and on the west coast - surely they must get it quite regularly, but does Holyrood/Westminster put enough money into making life easy for them? I doubt it.

Once, in about 1993-4, St. Andrews was actually physically cut off by snow. The hills by the Woollen Mill were blocked and nothing could get in or out. It lasted a whole day.

In January 1987, I remember seeing a tractor get stuck in the snow on the path between DRH and Melville. That was the most snow I remember in St. Andrews. However, it wasn't quite as bad as that makes it sound - the snow had blown off the fields on both sides of the path and formed a drift between the fences.

Actually, in Callander, where I went to high school we had snow for most of the Winter every year. People from outlying villages got cut off for about a month every year, and even us people who lived right next to the school usually got a few days off school cos of the snow.
