My car engine broke. To quote the garage, "Catastrophic oil pressure failure."

Possible new (or nearly new) cars:

Skoda Fabia - a small car that I fit in, can see the dials, can get the seat comfortable and do not hit my leg with the door handle when I swing the door closed.

Skoda Roomster - odd. Fabia at front with more boxy back like a tall estate. Very clever rear seats, lots of space, only about £1000 more then Fabia but may look a bit too square. Falls into the quirky looks.

Hyundai i30 - ok but a bit dear for what it is. Does offer full 5 year manufactures warranty.

Mazda 3 - ok but a bit dear by the time you get the automatic.

Cars I do not fit in:
Hyundai i10, i20
Suzuki Alto, Splash, Swift, Jimny
Toyota iQ

Cars rejected for other reasons:
Toyota Aygo - stupid waist high bottom of boot
Vauxhall - local dealer is Arnold Clark and were real trouble when I had the Astra and Vectra
Volvo - nothing I can afford
Saab - nothing I can afford

Thoughts anyone?

We lease a Honda Jazz at the moment, and we'll probably be getting another one when that runs out. They're a great drive, and the packing options go from folding the back seats upwards for tall space, to completely flat packing the pack and van-ing the car.

The driving is comfortable, spacious and what you get on standard with them includes AC etc. We pay 200 a month to lease ours, which isn't bad at all.

Honda Jazz
I had a Honda Jazz as a courtesy car a while ago - it seemed pretty good, fitting me comfortably despite being quite small externally. Certainly worth a closer look!

Re: Honda Jazz
I will look at the Jazz. The Honda dealer is a good way out of the centre of Dundee so it may have to wait until I can sort out transport.

It might be a bit dear though, looking at What Car the automatic is only available on the dearer model and make it about £13,000 on the road.

Course these days the deals you get from the garage can differ a lot from the list price.

Re: Honda Jazz
Andrew, I wasnt thinking... if you need me to pick you up at all this week for a lunch run to any of the dealerships, I will should be able to help out. If it had clicked with me sooner, (DOH) I would have taken you around to the dealerships today!

Let me know...

Go with the Fabia. What's not to love?

Fabia is winning so far, with the Roomster a possible as I quite like something different!

We looked at the Nissan Dealer in Dundee, they share it with another brand... I cant recall the name, but I loved some of their cars!

We ended up with the QashQai, is that too big for what you are looking for? Lovely car to drive!

When hiring cars before we bought, the Peuguot (sp, it is late and I dont feel well so I am not looking it up) was nice. I am a pretty good size with back/neck injury so not generally good in cars low to ground that I have to climb out of. We seemed to keep getting 4 door hatchbacks... Really nice, good gas mileage as well. I will dig about my file pile to get you exact models if you like?!

Checked my copy of What Car.
QashQai is too dear, by the time you get the automatic it is almost £16,000. I am relay looking in the 8 to 12 range.

just looked up the dealership... the two cars I liked were the megane and the scenic... both drove well and felt nice... just werent big enough for a soon to be growing family! (also I dont think they had the electronics package we were looking for. I cant remember) Hope that helped some!

Scenic is to dear - about 15 for automatic.
Megane 5 door does not come in automatic, only a sporty 3 door that is 18!

It is helping to rule stuff out.
