Any particular reason you chose the Nesco to shoot?

It was the thing in Sur La Table that I most wanted to play with. But there was no reason to buy it as, 1 - it was to big to bring home, 2 - wrong voltage. That is what saved me. Dehydrators are not very common in the UK and the only ones I have seen were very expensive. This was about $60 so only £30

Commercial dehydrators are kind of iffy. They tend to use both heat (quite a bit of heat) and airflow, and can result in a "cooked" taste in things they dehydrate.

The beef jerky episode of Good Eats explained how to make a dehydrator out of a box fan, two furnace filters and some rubber bands. No heat means no cooked flavor, you're just limited to using it when the weather is dry...
