Today so far

Spent the morning so far listening to Your Desert Island Discs
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/features/desert-island-discs/about/your-desert-island-discs

Well than and unblocking the dishwasher. I am not sure what was stuck in it but I think I have managed to get it flushed down the drain. Had stuck it on a delicate cycle full of various bits of the fridge so it was not that there was obvious food.

What I found really useful was a baseball cap with a light in the brim. Toby and I spotted them the other week when we stopped at Aldi. I have seen them before in the USA when I bought one for Carol in Fry's Electronics http://www.frys.com/ (think it was the Tiki hut style one) when out shopping with Stuart and Dianne. The one from Fry's was much nicer as the Aldi one is a bit cheaply made but it does work. The beam of light from the brim was very good at peering into dark corners of the water filled sump of the dishwasher.

Been thinking about appliances. Toby and Kate got a new one delivered yesterday by the repair people as theirs broke and the part needed was no longer made. I have a similar repair agreement for my washing machine. It is almost 13 years old now and I think I might not renew the plan next April. Then plan to buy a new one next year or whenever it breaks next after that. I want this time to choose it myself, for various reasons I did not get to do that last time and there are some things about it I find annoying.

I think what I ideally want is one with a wifi connection that will email me when it finishes it cycle. Wonder if that exists. Failing that a remote beeper I can have in the living room that will let me know when it stops. It is very annoying nipping out to the shed in the rain to find it has not finished yet. Do you stand in the shed for 5 mins waiting or get wet an extra time heading back to the house.

Totally unrelated to your post!

Did you get the petit fours book and if so did you have a chance to look through it and have any thoughts?

Hi Claire, Yes, thank you. I am afraid it got as far as my pile of opened mail and no further. Work has been hectic and we are days away from the release of the new version of our software. That and we have our annual User's Meeting in Paris next week. I fly out on Tuesday and back on Friday for two days of public meeting then a day of meetings with just our team (from UK, US, Germany & Portugal) to discuss future plans. Must get on with washing and pack for the trip. And I still have Bugs in our ticketing system to fix before monday.

Thanks again for the book, I will read it when I can.

A.

Sounds like a practical solution - wifi webcam on the shed.

They look to be quite expensive, about £70 to £250. There are cheaper wireless cameras but they end up with a composite output, so are the equivalent of an analog camera. Idea makes sense but not the price.
